Emil Lupac

Mr. Lupac is highly regarded as one of the most
outstanding Czech/Bohemian makers working today. He makes violins, violas and violoncellos using classic Stradivari and Guarneri models and patterns. He selects only the finest woods -- Bosnian maple and Italian and Bohemian spruce -- for his creations.

Emil Lupac was born in 1935 in Horni Myslova in what was then Czechoslovakia. After his normal studies, he entered into a four-year course under the guidance of Josef Vávra and Willibald Wilfer resulting is his successful completion of the master examination. Next, he gave himself three years of apprentice and prepartory work. Additional study was completed under Josef Pötzl and Jiri Mrkvicka.

Until recently he was principal teacher at the Czech School of Violin-making, where he taught an entire generation of Bohemian, Moravian and Slovakian makers, including his son-in-law, Tomas Skala.
