We currently have a violin made by Mr. Budaimade in 1998 (359 mm.). This instrument has a one-piece back with medium flaming. The spruce top features a medium grain. The varnish is light brown over a yellow ground. Its price (as well as the price for custom orders) is $3,300/E2,445.

Jozsef (Giuseppe) Budai lives and works in a part of today's Romania that was once Hungarian and still has strong Hungarian influences. His instruments have been very popular with our customers. He is the exclusive maker/luthier for a major professional symphony orchestra there; a number of the players in this orchestra perform on his instruments.

Jozsef Budai makes violins using both Guarneri del Gesu and Stradivari models from Bosnian maple and Carpathian spruce. His lovely oil varnish has been praised by many and won awards. Mr. Budai is also a visual artist; each of his hand-created certificates includes an original watercolor drawing of the completed instrument as well a photographs. He makes violins, violas, and cellos.
