Blue Danube Violins is proud to be the exclusive representative and dealer for the important collection of stringed instruments (violins, violas and violoncellos) by the Hungarian master, Pál (Paulus) Sáránszky (1919-2000). This collection can be viewed in our violin showroom in Vienna, Strozzigasse 32-34, during normal business hours or by appointment.

Pál Sáránszky earned his apprentice certificate in the workshop of Rezsõ Czigel in 1937. After WWII, he continued his studies in the workshop of Mihály Reményi, where he received his certificate as Geigenbaumeister (master violin maker). In 1956, he opened his own shop in Budapest taking over the shop important location of Pal Pilath. Here, Mr. Sáránszky worked until his death in 2000.

Pál Sáráanszky is one of the few masters who retained the outstanding traditions of Hungarian violin making during the socialist era.

His reputation as a repairman and restorer was such that he was asked by UNESCO to repair stringed instruments damaged by the floods in Firenze (Florence) during the 1960s.

Mr. Sáránszky's instruments are played and treasured by professional artists around the world, particularly in Germany. In 1994, his instruments received a 'First Prize for Tone' in a (blind) competition organized in Budapest. During the last period of his life, he managed to transfer his knowledge to several of his apprentices in an effort to revitalize the glories and traditions of Hungarian violin making.
