"I love your instruments!"
Mads Tolling (violist) Turtle Island String Quartet

Mads Tolling grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark. Beginning his training as a classical violinist at the age of six, he later graduated from the prestigious Sankt Annae School, where he started playing jazz at age 16. During those years, Tolling received 1st prize in both the prestigious Berlingske Tidendes Classical and Jazz Competitions. While still in high school, he appeared on the well-known Danish TV series “The Spider,” performing with several distinguished Danish jazz musicians. After leaving Denmark, he traveled to Boston, where he went on to receive his Bachelor of Music degree at the Berklee College of Music, graduating summa cum laude. During his three years there he studied with jazz violinist Matt Glaser, saxophonist Joe Lovano and pianist JoAnne Brackeen, among others. He has received Sankt Annae’s Award for Musical Excellence, as well as grants from Queen Margaret, the Sonning Foundation and the Berklee Elvin Jones Award. Tolling has performed with Jean-Luc Ponty, Joe Lovano, Al DiMeola, Lenny White and Gerry Brown, and is currently a member of renowned bass player Stanley Clarke’s band. He has recorded 3 CD’s of his original compositions, one of which features JoAnne Brackeen, and has also recorded with vibraphonist Dave Samuels. He is also featured on singer Teena Marie’s latest recording, “La Dona.”

Mr. Tolling plays a viola and bow acquired from Blue Danube Violins

"I was looking for a good violin made in Europe at an affordable price. Blue Danube Violins had exactly what I was looking for. Now I own a beautiful violin that looks and sounds better than most violins I've seen in its price range. They can acquire a top-quality instrument made by a master craftsman. I would recommend Blue Danube Violins to anyone."

"Hello, Matthew here. The (ARTONUS) case did arrive yesterday. It is beautiful, thank you so much. I am very happy and feel lucky to get ahold of one. I know a lot of other violists interested in the case. Thank you again so much."

"Since I have been a participant in different conducting courses organized by Blue Danube Productions/Musik Impresario, I can state that the teaching was great as well as the organization. Another very important aspect for conducting students is that the amount of podium time they get is very good and equally divided between the participants."
